for some memory or some land
Land, like the body and its memory, is fragmented and ever-changing. The Chicana/o/x artists in For some memory or some land recapture images of nature, sometimes overgrown and freeing; otherwise refashioned from urban decay. Land is not lost within city limits - nor is the absence of people felt beyond its walls. From the urban center to farms, and deserts to forests, the artists re-build nature through installations, photographs, paintings, and sculpture. Others utilize myth-building, pushing natural elements as gateways into the fantastical. Nature can be regrown and renewed.
